Orange Chatham Alternative Sentencing is a non-profit, community-supported agency. Our agency is
primarily funded by the state in addition to local governments in Orange and Chatham counties which comprise the 15B Judicial District.
Additional contributions are also received from the United Way. The services provide information to the court system about adult
offenders. The goal is to provide information to the court system in the local judicial district to assist the court in making informed
decisions.
About Sentencing Services
Sentencing Services includes a network of local private and public agencies which operate through the Administrative Office of the Courts
under the authority of N.C.G.S 7A-770 through 7A-777.
Offenders are eligible for Sentencing Services services if they are eligible to receive an intermediate punishment based on their
class of offense and prior record level. They must also face an imminent and substantial threat of imprisonment.
Sentencing Services programs develop comprehensive, community-based sentencing plans for eligible offenders. Plans include results
of assessments and background investigations, as well as recommendations for the judge to consider, such as:
- Special probation (split sentence) – short imprisonment or weekends in jail;
- Probation – regular, intensive or electronic house arrest;
- Counseling – drug, alcohol, mental health, consumer credit;
- Volunteer community service;
- Victim restitution;
- Restitution to the Narcotics Bureau;
- Employment or vocational training;
- Education – college, high school or literacy;
- Structured residential placement;
- Therapeutic community placement;
- Sober housing placement.
